Join us on 3.14 (that’s Thursday, March 14th for those less numerically inclined) to meet Chef Kristine of Creme Caramel, taste free pie samples, and get your mini pies for only $3.14 all day (regular price $4.95)!

Chef Kristine de la Cruz of Crème Caramel with the mini pies she is making exclusively for Mendo Sherman Oaks!

Even though her background is in marketing, Chef Kristine always dreamed of bringing Filipino food into the mainstream and exposing more people to these special and delicious ingredients. Noticing that nobody was doing flavored flan in a retail space, she decided she wanted to use her aunt’s Filipino Leche Flan as a base but create different flavors, like ice cream.

Kristine and her partner Sean Gilleland first started selling at local LA Farmers Markets and a year later, they participated in a Filipino food festival and had an amazing reception. They went from 1 to 15 markets in a two-year span and outgrew their commercial kitchen rental. They rented their own storefront in Sherman Oaks, and that’s when Mendo Co-Founders Mario Del Pero and Ellen Chen first discovered them down the street from their house. One of Mendocino Farms’ core values is to partner with and champion deserving local food artisans, and Kristine and her custards instantly stood out to them.

They first asked Crème Caramel to collaborate on a special dessert for a pop-up Pastrami dinner they hosted along with Ugly Drum back in 2014, and they’re thrilled to partner once again to bring these mini pies to Mendo’s Sherman Oaks guests and introduce Sherman Oaks locals to Kristine’s local shop.
