Behold our newest Chef’s Pick—”La Reina” Impossible Burger! Following up on the record-breaking popularity of The Impossible Taco Salad (which became our #3 bestselling item last year, a first for one of our vegan offerings), we could not be more excited to announce our latest collaboration with Impossible. They are currently conducting a culinary sneak-peek of their latest recipe with select celebrity chefs and restaurants nationwide, and Mendocino Farms was the ONLY non-burger concept chosen to debut the new product. We’re pretty proud of that, and we think you’re going to love our Chef’s creation.

We use Impossible meat to create a housemade southwestern spiced burger patty and top it with tomato cayenne Chao cheese, chipotle thousand island, candied fresno chilis, tomatoes, red onions, and butter lettuce, and we serve it all piled high on a toasted plant-based brioche bun.

Just like the last recipe, the new recipe is made entirely from plants but tastes exactly like meat. Even hard-core meat eaters might do a double-take (like our Co-Founder Mario did when he declared that it was the most delicious burger he’s ever tried—and he has tried hundreds). It has just as much iron as beef and packs 19g of high-quality protein, but it has ZERO cholesterol and 35% less fat than beef. Plus, the new recipe is now gluten-free and has 30% less sodium and 40% less saturated fat than before.

Pitching their new burger as an innovation in technology, Impossible unveiled their new recipe at CES (the International Consumer Electronics show) and swept top awards including “Best of the Best,” “Most Unexpected Product, and Most Impactful Product. They created a lot of media buzz, including hits on CNN, Forbes, Fast Company, Mashable, CNET, and TechCrunch. Their approach does rely on a heavy investment in science and technology to create such a realistic plant-based meat, and it makes both a culinary and an environmental impact since just one serving of Impossible meat saves the equivalent of 75 sqaure feet of land, half a bathtub of water, and 18 miles of car emissions compared to one serving of beef.
